Great Southern Rail is delighted to announce its induction as an executive partner of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia.
In doing so, Great Southern Rail has become only the second rail company globally to be welcomed into the ranks of the world’s largest cruise association.
Comprising 55 of the world’s major cruise lines, CLIA is dedicated to the promotion and growth of the cruise industry.
Great Southern Rail has close ties to the cruise industry through the ever-growing ‘Rail & Sail’ market. The ‘Rail & Sail’ products currently represent $2-3m worth of business (and expected to double within 12 months)for the Australian rail company, which operates The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland trains.
“We are naturally excited to be invited to join an association as prestigious as CLIA and to be the only rail company in the Southern Hemisphere represented within its ranks,” Great Southern Rail spokesman Steve Kernaghan said.
“Now that both The Ghan and Indian Pacific offer all-inclusive dining and Off Train Excursions, taking a rail journey through the heart of Australia is even more aligned to a cruise holiday.
“With the growth of the Australian coastal cruising market in particular, our trains with their departure cities of Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney are ideal for pre and post cruise connections.”
