What a fantastic experience. We travelled gold class from Adelaide to Darwin for our 25th wedding anniversary. The last day on the train was our anniversary date and crew D ensured it was a magical day for us - thanks so much. Don't wait to retire to do this trip - do it now!

My husband, daughter and I recently travelled from Katherine to Alice Springs on the Ghan, and even though we were in the sit up carriage, we thoroughly loved it. We met some fantastic people and made several new friends. The dining car became the focal point for meeting people and sharing stories from fellow travellers. We now have the train bug and would love to do it again some day.

What a wonderful trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs on the Ghan. It brought us from grass land with herd of sheep and cow to desert with red sand and bushes. We can watch the rusty sun going down silently, Milky Way in the starry night and the brightly sun coming from the horizon that Venus disappears in the sky at last. Thanks to the Ghan that we experienced such a journey.

We couldn`t have spent better our Honeymoon . The experience on the Ghan was astonishing for the landscapes, the sunsets, the outstanding travellers and the attentive and informative staff members (Braedon and Nathan were so supportive!) It was enjoyable!

We travelled on The Ghan in April 2009. We can honestly say we had a fantastic time from the moment we stepped on the train until we regretfully had to step off again. If we had to use one word to describe our experience with Great Southern Rail it would be professionalism. Their staff were the friendliest ever, the tour guides they used were incredibly knowledgeable and the meals served were divine.

Early May 2009 we travelled on The Ghan. Really great time and friendly people. Been on the Indian Pacific fantastic, now looking forward to The Overland. Why go overseas when we have such a wonderful country to see. Recommend it to all our friends and others we speak to. GSR organised our trip, really easy way to go.

My partner Ian Humphreys and I, Bev Jones just experienced the most fabulous Great Train ride on 'The Ghan'. We cannot praise the encounter enough. We would like to thank all concerned.
Below a little verse written in appreciation:
'The Ghan' was our travel destination
A train that sweeps the centre of the Nation.
The loco drivers, upfront who like to hide,
Thanks guys for the fabulous, smooth ride.
The onboard crew was terrific
Headed by John an avid Manly Football fanatic.
Simone was the best,
Closely followed by the rest.
To the chefs Terry and Karen
Who did not leave our tummies baron.
Our credit card account was not in peril
As this was left to the competent Errol.
To make sure we were served our meals & drinks and comfy in bed,
We left this to Marie, Rochelle, Casey, Nikki, Sally, & Cherie instead.
About Phillip, what can we say?
Keep up the good work, you'll go far eh?
To the rest of the crew
To the patrons were loyal and true.
Next time we travel, in bed each other to have and to hold,
We'd like to try platinum instead of gold."

We rode from Adelaide to Alice Springs and loved the trip. The staff were fantastic, the food good and reasonably priced, and the trip was smooth. We learned a lot about the Ghan and Australia itself thanks to the commentary provided. We have told everyone they should take the Ghan!

What a great trip. The service and food was second to none. The company was fantastic and the scenery was awesome. Have now done The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland and look forward to doing them all again.

My wife and I have always wanted to see Australia, we took our son for a five week Michael Palin type adventure holiday. Determined not to fly to everywhere I booked on the Ghan from Darwin to Alice Springs stopping at Katherine we had a nature tour. The whole experience was exciting and amazing. The Ghan is a journey I know I\'ll never forget and I\'m sure my son will want to take his children - won\'t be for a while yet though - he's only Ten.

I recently took my first trip to Australia and I wanted to do something different besides spending time in Cairns and Sydney. I wanted to see the interior of Australia and thought that The Ghan would be perfect especially after traveling 26-hour from New York. I could meet people and see the countryside while getting acclimatised to Australia.
I boarded The Ghan in Gold Service in Adelaide for the trip north to Darwin. I was hesitant at first since this was my first long distance train trip, but the staff as well as the passengers put me at ease. I remembered meeting Amy, the hospitality assistant, welcoming me aboard and answering the many questions I had. I also remembered meeting Kathryn, the dining room assistant, who came to my room to say what time dinner was that night. I thought there was a dress code for dinner but there were none because this is a very casual train. During the orientation, Gavin, one of the Gold managers, talked about The Ghan and her staff as well as having some of the passengers introduce themselves. It was a perfect way for me to meet my fellow passengers.
The food on The Ghan was excellent, with beef, fish and chicken dishes offered for the main course each night. The desserts were the best. The service from Kathy and Tricia was superb especially on a moving train. What I liked about the seating arrangements was that there was none. You’re free to sit anywhere. This affords a way to meet more of the passengers to chat it up.
I enjoyed the 4-hour stop at Alice Springs and Kathryn and the excursions to Alice Springs Desert Park and Kathryn Gorge. It was a good way to see parts of Australia that I would never probably see.
I thought that the scenery was fabulous. The climate change was dramatic from the greenery of Adelaide to the desert of central Australia to the tropics of Darwin all in 2 days.
I was very apprehensive about taking a long distance train especially in a foreign country. However, the staff of The Ghan as well as the passengers I met who took time out of their trip to ensure that I enjoyed myself was something very extraordinary. It was a great start to a once in a lifetime trip. I also had fun in Cairns and Sydney. Good weather and great people.
