Day 1 (Sun)

The Ghan, Adelaide

Cruise or fly from Darwin to Wurrumiyanga
Cruise: depart Cullen Bay at 0800
Fly: depart Darwin Airport at 0945

On arrival at Bathurst Island you will be met by a local Tiwi guide who will walk with you to Tiwi Design for welcome to country and a traditional morning tea (damper and a cuppa). Walk to the Museum with your guide who will provide a detailed and informative commentary on the culture and history of the Tiwi People. Return to Tiwi Design where you will have lunch and spend some time in the art centre, working with a local artist to create your own take home piece of art. (either screen printing or painting). You also have the opportunity to purchase unique and traditional Tiwi artworks including paintings, fabrics, carving, pottery and clothing at island prices.

Transfer to Wurrumiyanga Airport for your flight to Milikapiti on Melville Island
* 4:00pm depart Wurrumiyanga Airport
* 4:15pm arrive Milikapiti
You will be met at Milikapiti and transferred to Melville Island Lodge. Dinner and overnight accommodation at Melville Island Lodge. (L,D)

Day 2 (Mon)

The Ghan, Alice Springs

After breakfast at the Lodge, board the boats for a morning on the water – coastal sightseeing or try your hand at fishing in the pristine waters – the fish practically jump into the boat in a bid to be on your dinner plate. After lunch, spend a lazy afternoon at the lodge, taking advantage of the peace and isolation. Explore the beach or the community of Milikapiti, lounge on the deck, read up on the region’s artists. Late in the afternoon, go out to a local scenic spot overlooking Shark Bay for sunset drinks and nibbles. Keep an eye out for resident crocodiles. Dinner will be served on the deck at the Lodge. Day 3 (Tue)

The Ghan, Katherine and Darwin

Enjoy breakfast on the deck. Spend the morning at Jilamara Arts and Muluwurri Museum, meet the artists, with plenty of time to browse or buy quality Tiwi art. Lunch at Melville Island Lodge before flying back to Darwin mid-afternoon. (B,L)

Day 4 (Wed)

Darwin to Tiwi Island

Fly to Bathurst Island and commence your Tiwi Island experience. Be welcomed with a traditional dance and smoking ceremony. Join the artists for morning tea before taking part in a walking tour with a local Tiwi guide. Visit the mission precinct then continue onto the Culture Museum where you will discover the culture and history of the Tiwi people. After lunch immerse yourself in the Tiwi culture and an opportunity to create your own work of art. You will have the chance to purchase traditional Tiwi artworks including paintings, fabrics, carving, pottery and clothing at Island prices. A boat trip via Port Hurd will see you arrive at Bathurst Island Lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation. (B,L,D)

Day 5 (Thur)

Tiwi Islands

Board your boat for sightseeing and fishing expedition, with the possibility of seeing dramatic cliffs, shipwrecks and wildlife. Unwind this afternoon with free time at the Lodge or go and explore the local area. At sunset you will join a Tiwi Sea Ranger for a turtle discovery tour, complete with drinks and nibbles on the beach. (B,L,D)

Day 6 (Fri)

Tiwi Islands to Darwin

Enjoy a breakfast on the deck, before a sea transfer to Port Hurd. Experience a breath taking scenic flight over Bathurst and Melville Islands. On arrival at Milikapiti on Melville Island, you will be met by a local guide and venture to Jilamara Arts, a centre renowned for high quality Tiwi art. Continue onto the Muluwurri Museum to view a collection of carvings, Tiwi artefacts, prints and early photographs. After lunch at the nearby Melville Island Lodge, your charter flight will depart for Darwin. Check into Oaks Elan Darwin for your final night’s accommodation. (B,L)

Day 7 (Sat)

Darwin

This morning after breakfast, check out of your hotel and your package concludes. (B)
