The Overland secures continued funding

22 March 2016

The Overland train will continue to operate beyond June 2016 following the Victorian Government’s announcement today to provide a $10.3 million funding commitment to the service over the next three years.

The commitment, supported by a three-year agreement from the South Australian Government secured late last year, provides certainty for this historic train service.

“This ongoing commitment from both the Victorian and South Australian Governments offers great assurance to the almost 30,000 people a year who travel on The Overland,” Great Southern Rail CEO Chris Tallent said.

“It’s an excellent result for this service, which relies on support from both State Governments for its continued operation.”

“Great Southern Rail will open bookings from today for those who wish to travel on The Overland beyond June this year.”

The Overland operates two return services per week between Melbourne and Adelaide.

Guests can book seats on The Overland at and through the Great Southern Rail Travel Centre (13 21 47).
